October 11, 2024 – True Corporation has collaborated with the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, Royal Thai Police, and NBTC to dismantle a major call center scam operation targeting the public. True assisted by providing leads, monitoring areas with unusual phone activity, and analyzing complaints related to suspicious numbers. This collaboration resulted in the arrest of several call center gang members and the seizure of 113 SIM boxes, 575 mobile phones, 23 computers, and approximately 101,068 mobile SIM cards. True is committed to ongoing efforts to ensure mobile phone usage remains safe from criminals, with the goal of “blowing up the criminals’ bridge” by cutting off the avenues used by call center gangs.
Mr. Chakkrit Urairat, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of True Corporation Plc., said, “The issue of call center gangs has severely affected the Thai public. We care about mobile users and are committed to addressing this problem seriously. True has been continuously monitoring and investigating phone usage. Upon detecting unusual activity affecting service quality and receiving customer reports about suspicious numbers via the hotline 9777, we swiftly coordinated with the CIB, Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, Royal Thai Police, and NBTC, leading to this significant bust. The seizure of numerous SIM cards and mobile equipment has significantly disrupted the call center operations. However, we believe there are larger masterminds behind this, and investigations will continue. True remains committed to resolving this issue and ensuring the safety of all mobile phone users.”

Monitoring SIM Box Usage: Reporting to the police when unusual call patterns are detected from a single number in a specific area.
Suspending Suspicious Numbers: Sending SMS alerts and suspending numbers that exhibit abnormal calling patterns while verifying the identities of users.
Hotline for Reporting Leads: A dedicated line, 9777, for reporting suspicious numbers or scam-related SMS.
Collaboration with Whoscall App: Sharing data on suspicious numbers to enhance warning systems.
Shutting Down Signal Towers Along Borders: Preventing the use of phone signals for cross-border criminal activities in compliance with NBTC regulations.

Stringent SIM Registration: Requiring partners to register SIMs immediately upon sale to prevent impersonation and protect personal data.
Penalties for Non-compliant Partners: Ranging from warnings and reduced compensation to termination of partnerships.
Supporting Police Operations: Providing information to help shut down SIM boxes used by criminals.
Monitoring Unusual SIM Purchases: Promptly reporting suspicious individuals purchasing large quantities of SIMs.
