Bangkok October 26, 2023 – King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, the Thai Red Cross Society, in collaboration with True Digital Group, brought digital technology to elevate the medical service to the next level by developing innovation that supports thyroid cancer treatment in Thailand, embarks on pioneering research and development, aiming to revolutionize the field of nuclear medicine. This innovation involves the adaptation of robots to support healthcare professionals in the mission to treat thyroid cancer patients through the use of radioactive iodine. The innovative approach promises to significantly enhance the efficiency of patient care, marking a significant milestone in the country’s healthcare landscape. Most importantly, this will also help doctors and healthcare professionals to minimize the risk of being directly exposed to the radiation while treating the patients. Therefore, it minimizes health risks and the potential for long-term radiation-related symptoms, safeguarding the well-being of healthcare providers and ensuring a safer treatment environment. The “Intelligence robot” was functionally developed based on the medical service requirements including transporting radioactive iodine, food, medicine & medical supplies, telemedicine, measuring vital sign, and inspecting and measuring radioactive contamination in the service area after the patients finished the treatment. The robot was also designed with a combination of human and technology (Human-Tech Technology) with friendly design, a soothing voice with human-like touch & interaction. The innovation provides benefits and values in various dimensions in the medical and Thai healthcare industry. Furthermore, the robot’s adaptability extends to various services, fostering the rapid growth and broader application of robot and digital technologies in the medical field. This underlines True’s ambition as the leading Telecom-Tech company in creating innovative digital technology that benefit the people of Thailand, society, and the country.
Assoc. Prof. Chanchai Sittipunt, M.D., Director of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Thai Red Cross, and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, said that King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, the Thai Red Cross Society, and the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University are extremely delighted to have True Digital Group joining with robot development team of Nuclear Medicine, Department of Radiology ,King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital to develop robot and enhance innovation that provides conveniences and serve patients in nuclear medicine. It is a great step to increase service efficiency and elevate the medical service with state-of-the-art technology for maximum patient benefits. At the same time, medical personnel could minimize the risk in directly exposed to radiation while treating the patients, increasing safety for doctors, nurses, and medical personnel to closely and continuously care for patients.
On this occasion, we would like to thank various supporters for co-developing this advanced technology, “Intelligence robot that helps facilitating radioactive iodine therapy for thyroid cancer treatment”. We believe that this technology will support the progress of the medical industry and elevate the public health service in Thailand.
However, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, the Thai Red Cross Society and the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, along with the robot development team of Nuclear Medicine, Department of Radiology, and every related agencies and entities continue to develop treatments, research and create medical innovations to have wider coverage with up-to-date services. This will help increase work efficiency and reduce risk for medical personnel and hope it will help foster physical and mental health for the public with maximum benefit from the treatment.
Mr. Ekaraj Panjavinin, Chief Digital Officer, True Corporation Plc, said that True Digital determines to develop digital innovation to elevate the lifestyles of all Thais and increase capacity efficiency in various industrial sectors, and strengthen the digital economy as well as promote the Thai society to grow with stability and sustainability, reinforcing True’s position as the leading telecom-tech company. This innovative development of a “Intelligence robot that helps facilitating radioactive iodine therapy for thyroid cancer treatment” under the cooperation with King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, the Thai Red Cross Society is another source of pride for True, as it leverages their extensive experience in research, development, and innovation.” By integrating digital expertise and True’s completed digital ecosystem, with insightful knowledge shared by Medical professionals from renowned Thai medical schools, we aim to elevate medical services to a new level, fostering unprecedented innovations in state-of-the-art healthcare. This marks the first time in Thailand of developing a robot that aids nuclear medicine and healthcare professionals by enhancing patient care and boosting safety. It reduces the risk of direct radiation exposure for medical teams treating thyroid cancer patients, lowering the chances of long-term health issues related to radiation exposure. This also helps healthcare professionals take care of more patients with higher efficiency. True Digital will move forward to propel the capabilities of the robot as well as expand its application to various service areas, fostering the rapid growth and broader application of robot and digital technologies in the medical field, creating a digital lifestyle that brings benefit to the people of Thailand, economy, and the society.
The launch of the “Intelligence robot that helps facilitating radioactive iodine therapy for thyroid cancer treatment”
The intelligence robot was designed with human aspect or Human-Tech Technology with friendly character and humanized technology, featuring human touch and reaction that will create smiles and satisfaction among patients. The robot is commanded and controlled through a tablet and connected via a 5G network to serve real-time communication with high stability and data privacy. Its outstanding features consisted of;
- Transporting medicine, medical supplies, and food to patients in the area or in the patients’ rooms.
- Telemedicine via video call connecting doctors, nurses, technologists and patients to closely provide medical consultation during the treatment period in the hospital.
- Measuring Vital Sign for patients during their thyroid cancer treatment with real-time medical report and data storage on Cloud.
- Inspecting radioactive contamination in the service area or patient’s room after finishing the therapy, and showing results in a Heat Map format classified level of radioactive contamination by colors in each area to increase safety for physician and medical staff.
