In-Dept Examination of the “3 Passes” Accredited by TGO: True Corporation Acknowledged as an “Excellent” Leader in Greenhouse Gas Management, Targeting “Net Zero 2050”

02 October 2024

Bangkok, October 2nd, 2024 – Thailand accounts for merely 0.9% of global greenhouse gas emissions, however it is positioned among the top 10 nations most susceptible to the enduring effects of climate change. This includes losses in natural resources, biodiversity, and substantial effects on the lifestyles and livelihoods of the Thai populace. The Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO), a public entity tasked with mitigating greenhouse gas emissions across multiple sectors, has been assessing and acknowledging exemplary organizations in greenhouse gas management via its Climate Action Leading Organization (CALO) awards. In 2024, True Corporation, a leading Thai tech company, was awarded the CALO accolade at the highest degree of distinction. True successfully met TGO’s evaluation standards based on three fundamental parameters:

1. Assessing Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Operations: True Corporation has defined carbon reduction objectives. In 2023, it diminished its greenhouse gas emissions by 12.7% relative to the based year 2020, closely conforming to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) objective of 12.6%.

2. Optimizing Its Own Greenhouse Gas Emission Reductions:

In 2023, True implemented solar-powered systems at more than 7,800 signal towers around the nation, resulting in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 19,876 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). In 2024, True intends to install solar panels at 11,200 signal towers and six data centers, resulting in an annual electricity savings of roughly 64,000 MWh and a reduction of 28,800 tons of CO2e emissions.

True has enhanced its energy efficiency by modernizing its network infrastructure and integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies. These endeavors, including automated power control and network quality monitoring, have resulted in the conservation of 42,000 MWh of electricity.

3. Mitigating Residual Greenhouse Gas Emissions with Carbon Credits: True endorses the carbon market mechanism and, in 2023, mitigated 154,000 tons of CO2e through energy conservation initiatives. True also seeks to achieve Net Zero by collaborating with critical stakeholders to reduce emissions throughout its supply chain. Encouragement of employees to participate in initiatives such as Car Free Day, the transition to public transportation, the reduction of single-use plastic, and the responsible management of electronic waste are among the initiatives.
