“The Abyss Beyond”, A Digital Art Exhibition That Takes You Deep Into The Mysterious Realm Between Life and Death Through Immersive Art, Directly From South Korea

26 July 2024

When art is no longer confined but advances alongside modern technology, “Immersive Art,” a form of digital art, has become a focal point in recent times. This art form involves displaying artwork in spacious rooms, where projections light up every corner, allowing viewers to feel engaged with the colors and fully interact with the art.

Imagine experiencing such cutting-edge art in small groups of no more than 10 people, with two viewing sessions per visit to fully appreciate the immersive art experience.

This exclusive opportunity is available only at the “The Abyss Beyond” exhibition. This event marks another collaboration between True Digital Park and Topos Studio, a world leader in digital art exhibition technology from South Korea. The exhibition is held at TDPK Studio 1 on the 2nd floor of True Digital Park West.

Before attending, let’s explore the background, the main theme of the exhibition, and some tips for viewing to ensure a special experience.

From a Leading Studio in South Korea to the Second Digital Art Exhibition in Thailand

Topos Studio, a studio specializing in the creation of digital art from South Korea, was founded in 2019 and has collaborated with numerous world-renowned artists and creators. Last year, True Digital Park partnered with Topos Studio to host the “The Gate Immersive Theater” exhibition, which was a great success. This year, in 2024, they are collaborating once again to present the digital art exhibition “The Abyss Beyond.”

“This exhibition aims to showcase contemporary art by collaborating with two artists and utilizing the power of new media to create immersive art, offering a novel art experience that will impress viewers as always,” said Daegyeom Heo, CEO of Topos Studio.

The exhibition will once again be held at True Digital Park West, with the space being developed into the TDPK Studio zone, which fully supports art and young artists. Dr. Tarit Nimmanwudipong, General Manager of True Digital Park, said,

“In addition to our aim of making our space a center for advanced technology, we are also open to various forms of art, including new art forms that convey images and sounds through technology. We intend for this community to be a platform for talented artists, studios, and startups from both Thailand and abroad.”

“The Abyss Beyond” Opens a Profound Experience of the Mysterious Realm

The “The Abyss Beyond” exhibition features two curated works from two contemporary artists, each exploring the theme of the unconscious and the mysterious time between life and death. This immersive art aims to invite viewers to explore, inspire, and expand their understanding of the world and their own identity.

The first piece, “Abyss of Black and Light: We are the Primitive of New Era,” is the final work of Aldo Tambellini, an Italian-American artist and pioneer in media art who spent his life exploring dark spaces. Known as a leader in the avant-garde movement, he co-founded Gate Theatre in New York City and exhibited internationally. This work uses realistic images and Ambisonics sound to create a ‘dimension’ of space.

The second piece, “Abyss of the Unconscious: After Death Before the Birth,” is by Kamin Lertchaiprasert, a Thai artist who integrates art with spirituality. His work emphasizes impermanence, mindfulness, and the interconnectedness of life. This piece delves into the dark recesses of the human mind, exploring the state between the end of life, conveying the artist’s philosophy on life and the universe through the ‘Golden Skull,’ which symbolizes the artist’s essence.

Organize Small Viewing Groups with Recommendations for a Full Viewing Experience

“Given that both works convey highly abstract fine art, the intention is to exhibit them within a medium-sized white studio room, effectively a theater, using a 250-degree media display screen and Ambisonics sound to deliver the best auditory experience. Sound is not just a component but an essential part of communicating with the audience,” emphasized Daegyeom Heo.

To ensure a full viewing experience as intended by the exhibitors, each session lasts about 30 minutes, with two rounds of viewing. The recommendations for viewing are as follows

First round – Watch and immerse yourself in both the light and sound of the artwork.

Second round – Walk into the light projections, fully engage with the art, and take photos to capture the experience.

True Digital Park Studio: A Space Supporting Young Artists and Art Appreciation at Any Time

One unique aspect of this exhibition is its daily operation without any holidays, providing an opportunity for people to conveniently experience the art.

“We believe that art should be close to people’s lives. Therefore, the exhibition at True Digital Park is open every day, without the typical Monday or Wednesday closures seen elsewhere. We want people to have the time to experience art at their convenience, whether during a lunch break on a workday or any other available time,” concluded Dr. Tarit.
