01 April 2021

April 1, 2021 – dtac and THE STANDARD are making history with the first live broadcast on 26 GHz 5G in Asia.  MORNING WEALTH program from THE STANDARD WEALTH Chanel will use a fixed wireless access on mmWave to stream high-definition video online. This technological first is part of dtac’s commitment to building 5G applications across numerous fields, including smart cities, smart agriculture and advanced broadcasting.

Prathet Tankuranun, Chief Technology Officer, Total Access Communication PLC or dtac, said, “dtac’s mmWave 5G is well suited to applications in various industries. For media, it can massively increase channel capacities making it ideal for broadcasts in augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR), and extended reality (XR).  Our partnership with THE STANDARD is a great start to this journey. It demonstrates the readiness of dtac’s 26 GHz 5G.”

The live broadcast of the MORNING WEALTH program from THE STANDARD’s studio is a significant step to ensure Thailand is exploring new technologies set to redefine how home viewers engage with content over high-speed internet.

As an online media, THE STANDARD is always exploring new ways to present information to viewers, and already broadcasts across multiple online platforms. Using 5G technology represents the latest milestone in their use of new media to report the news.

Nakarin Wanakijpaibul (Ken), Managing Director & Editor-in-chief of THE STANDARD said, “We have introduced a new channel, THE STANDARD WEALTH, with the MORNING WEALTH program – an economics news program that is currently broadcast via Facebook Live and YouTube Live. Those are our key internet platforms to present economic, business, financial, and investment news in varying perspectives to our viewers.”

In addition to transforming the viewing experience, 26 GHz 5G also ushers in a new era for content creators. It is expected that 5G will make news more interactive and more engaging, critical factors in capturing Gen Z viewers. With 26 GHz or mmWave upload speeds can be boosted to broadcast 4K VR/AR, 8K video and low-latency interactivity for seamless viewing experiences.

Furthermore, dtac will continue to support new industries and partners in new 5G use cases. dtac already has operational use cases in 5G smart video surveillance, smart energy and water management and smart agriculture.
