27 March 2020

March 27, 2020 – dtac is supporting medical personnel, public health agencies and government agencies with technology and connectivity solutions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company’s latest deployment will boost network performance in the area of Thammasat University Hospital through the assistance of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).

Prathet Tankuranun, Chief Technology Officer at Total Access Communication PLC or dtac, said: “As connectivity plays a critical role in this challenging time, dtac is here to serve the frontlines of the fight against COVID-19, which include healthcare workers and government agencies. Through the assistance of the NBTC, dtac is pleased to boost network performance in key areas and enable essential communications for patients and government services.”

dtac has deployed mobile cell sites to help boost the capacity of its mobile network at Thammasat University Hospital, where a dormitory has been modified into a 308-bed field hospital to treat COVID-19 patients.

“dtac’s capacities and solutions are enabling the seamless communication healthcare workers need to care for patients during this crisis, enabled by a reliable and secure network,” said Mr. Prathet.

The mobile site is part of dtac’s wider efforts to adapt to changing traffic patterns caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. Following orders from local authorities, public venues have faced a temporary closure from Mar 22 to April 12, resulting in migration from the capital to the provinces, especially in the past few days. dtac has been closely monitoring internet usage in order to help boost network capacity outside of downtown Bangkok.
