dtac acquires 5G spectrum to further strengthen network

16 February 2020

February 16, 2020 – dtac today announced the acquisition of 200 MHz spectrum in the 26GHz band. The acquired high-band spectrum (also known as mmWave) adds to dtac’s already strong portfolio of mid- and low-band spectrum, currently bringing customers the fastest download speeds in Thailand.

“We will never stop bringing new technology to our customers. In the last two years, we have made significant investments in advanced technology and new spectrum and our customers now enjoy the fastest download speeds in Thailand*. Our 5G preparations started already in 2018 with the rollout of high-speed TDD technology on our partnership spectrum 2300 MHz, followed by the acquisition of 700MHz spectrum in 2019. With the acquisition of 26GHz spectrum, we now have access to low, mid- and high-band spectrum to provide our customers with the best data experience also in the future,” said Sharad Mehrotra, CEO of dtac.

The unique features of 26GHz mmWave band includes ultra-high speeds and ultra-high capacity for a wide range of 5G service applications that require almost instantaneous delivery of large amounts of data, particularly 5G-enabled innovation like massive IoT solutions.

dtac will organize a press conference at dtac house to outline its 2020 business direction and network strategy.
