True Corporation Supports Government, DE Ministry, and NBTC in Combating Cross-Border Call Center Scams in Sa Kaeo; Launches “True CyberSafe” to Protect Customers from Cyber Threats

28 February 2025

February 28, 2025 – True Corporation, in collaboration with the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), conducted an on-site inspection of mobile base stations and international connection points (POIs) in Sa Kaeo province. This initiative is part of a nationwide effort to prevent call center scams that exploit border areas as fraud hubs. Following NBTC’s directives, True Corporation has proactively removed or adjusted mobile signal towers in border zones while ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for Thai customers through the deployment of Small Cell base stations. Additionally, True is reinforcing cybersecurity protection with “True CyberSafe,” a system designed to automatically safeguard customers from cyber threats, including malicious links and high-risk websites.

Mr. Chakkrit Urairat, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of True Corporation Plc., said, “True Corporation has fully complied with NBTC’s orders, particularly in Sa Kaeo province, where we have completed measures for all eight base stations—four involving equipment removal and four requiring antenna height adjustments. In addition, we have expanded these measures to key border areas, including Three Pagodas Pass and Ban Phu Nam Ron in Kanchanaburi, as well as Mae Sot, Phop Phra, and Mae Ramat districts in Tak province. We are also expediting compliance in seven other provinces—Chiang Rai, Surin, Buri Ram, Mukdahan, Nong Khai, Chanthaburi, and Ranong—targeting completion within 30 days, in full accordance with NBTC’s directives.”

To mitigate service disruptions following the removal of signal towers, True Corporation is installing Small Cell base stations—a solution that ensures continued connectivity in affected community areas as well as reducing digital-gap issues.

“After dismantling existing signal towers, our team will conduct thorough signal assessments and engage with local communities before strategically installing Small Cell stations in areas with weaker signals. This ensures seamless network coverage nationwide,” added Mr. Chakkrit.

True Corporation has strictly implemented the following NBTC-mandated measures for base stations near border areas:

  1. Base stations within 50 meters of the border: Complete removal of antennas, except in community areas, where antennas must not exceed 10 meters in height or must be replaced with Small Cell stations.
  2. Base stations within 1,000 meters of the border: Reduction of antenna height to a maximum of 15 meters, with network coverage limited strictly to Thai territory.
  3. Base stations within 3,500 meters of the border: Reduction of antenna height to a maximum of 30 meters, with strict network coverage limitations to prevent cross-border interference.

Enhanced Security with AI-Powered SIM Registration & “True CyberSafe”

In addition to infrastructure adjustments, True Corporation is reinforcing security measures to prevent SIM card misuse. The company has enhanced SIM sales and registration procedures, integrating AI and Data Analytics to detect and block high-risk SIM registrations that may be exploited for fraudulent activities.

To further protect customers, True has introduced “True CyberSafe”—a cybersecurity system that provides automatic protection to all True and dtac customers at no additional cost, without requiring manual activation or app downloads. This system proactively blocks malicious links from SMS messages, web browsers, and high-risk websites, enhancing protection for both mobile and True Online users.

True Corporation firmly believes that its proactive initiatives—including signal tower adjustments in border areas following NBTC’s directives, enhanced securities on SIM registration, and “True CyberSafe” solution—will help prevent criminals from misusing SIM cards for illegal activities. These measures will significantly reduce cyber threats faced by the public, alleviate law enforcement efforts in combating cybercrime, and contribute to the expansion of Thailand’s digital economy.
